He was born in Porto Alegre (RS) and currently resides in São Paulo (SP). He is the      author of nine poetry collections, including his most recent works: Sanduíche de Anzóis (Rio    de Janeiro, Alfaguara, 2025), Luz dos monstros (São Paulo, Aboio, 2022), Se o mundo é   redondo e outros poemas (Lisbon, Gato Bravo, 2020), and Garopaba Monstro Tubarão (São Paulo, Selo Demônio Negro, 2019). His 2014 collection, Mesmo sem dinheiro comprei um  esqueite novo (São Paulo, Companhia das Letras), was honored with the APCA Prize from    the São Paulo Association of Art Critics. In addition to his poetry, Scott has published six prose books. Notable among them is the short story collection Ainda orangotangos (Porto Alegre, Livros do Mal, 2003; republished by Editora Bertrand Brasil, 2007), which was adapted into a feature film by director Gustavo Spolidoro and won at the 13th Milan Film Festival. His novel Nowhere People (São Paulo, Alfaguara, 2011) won the 2012 Machado de Assis Prize from the National Library Foundation and has been published in Germany, Portugal, England, the United States, Croatia, and various Arab countries. His subsequent novels include O ano em que vivi de literatura (Rio de Janeiro, Editora Foz, 2015), winner of the 2016 Açorianos Literature Prize, and Phenotypes (São Paulo, Alfaguara, 2019). The latter received the 2020 Açorianos Prize for Literature and the 2023 Jabuti Prize for Brazilian Book Published Abroad, and was also longlisted for the International Booker Prize. Scott also writes plays and screenplays, contributing regularly to magazines, newspapers, and cultural supplements both in Brazil and internationally. His work has been published in Portugal, Greece, Italy, San Marino, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Croatia, Poland, China, Mexico, Argentina, the United States, and several Arab countries. He has participated in literary residencies and projects in China and Australia, and is currently researching his upcoming novel, Barqueiro Rondonópolis.
