Professor at Jagiellonian University, Head of the Department of Romanian Philology, long-time lecturer at the Centre for East European Studies at the University of Warsaw, translator of Romanian literature, and former diplomat. Author of the monograph Dylematy zmiany. XIX-wieczni pisarze rumuńscy wobec ideologii zachowawczej (2011), as well as numerous articles on the social and cultural history of Romania. His research focuses on the Balkan–Central European borderlands.
