Head of the Department of Romanian Philology at the Jagiellonian University and a philologist by training, his research interests involve the history of Romanian culture, the history of ideas, and the culture of the Balkan-Central European borderland. Author of the monograph Dylematy zmiany (2011) devoted to Romanian conservative thought in the 19th century, and also the co-editor of two collective volumes on borderland languages and cultures. He is the author of about fifty articles and scientific dissertations published in Poland, Romania, France, Switzerland and the UK. He was a lecturer at the Centre for East European Studies of the University of Warsaw for many years. From 1995 to 2001, he was a consul-counsellor at the Polish Embassy in Bucharest. He is a translator.
