Born in 1980 in Gdansk. He is a poet, novelist, translator and painter. He has published nine volumes of poetry, five novels, numerous volumes of short stories, short prose and columns. He received the Koscielski Award (2005) for Żywoty równoległe, and the Paszporty Polityki Award for his novel Lala. He has translated prose and poetry by Philip Larkin, Karlis Verdins, Henry James, Francis Scott Fitzgerald, J. M. Coetzee and William Faulkner, among others. He has been nominated many times for various awards (Szymborska, Angelus, EBRD Literature Prize, PEN Award for Poetry in Translation), including five times for the Nike Award. His books have been translated into more than a dozen languages. Together with his husband, Piotr Tarczynski, he is writing, under the pseudonym Maryla Szymiczkowa, a series of retro detective stories set in Krakow about Professor Szczupczynska. He is co-founder and president of the Literary Union. He lived in Warsaw for twenty years, and since 2020 he has lived in Berlin.
