Winner of the Leya, Oceanos, Jabuti (twice) and Montluc prizes, Itamar Vieira Junior was the first Brazilian author to be shortlisted for the International Booker Prize and the Dublin Literary Award. Born in Salvador in 1979, he holds a doctorate in Ethnic and African Studies, and is the author of the story collection, Doramar ou a odisseia, the children’s book Chupim, the novels Coracao sem medo, Salvar o fogo and Torto arado, the latter being one of the greatest successes, both critically and commercially, of Brazilian literature in recent decades, and has been translated into more than thirty languages.
