Piotr
Stańczyk

A habilitated doctor and professor at the University of Gdańsk, where he is the head of the Department of Philosophy of Education and Cultural Studies. A philosopher by training, he combines theoretical enquiry with engaged empirical research in his academic work. An advocate of critical, radical, and emancipatory pedagogy, he investigates the ways in which educational institutions and culture are intertwined with power relations. His projects have analysed discriminatory practices against part-time students, the response of working cultures in Polish schools to the challenges of capitalism, the visual discourse of artisanal advertising in Guinea-Bissau and São Tomé and Príncipe, and depictions of schools in mainstream pornography. A key focus of his work is adapting Paulo Freire’s ideas for use in Polish radical pedagogy. He is the author and co-author of five books and several dozen academic and popular science articles. He gained field experience during research placements in the Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe and the Republic of Guinea-Bissau. https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Piotr_Stanczyk2
