He is a literary translator, publisher and populariser of Finnish literature, and a teacher of translation. Sebastian Musielak graduated from an automotive technical school and Finnish philology at the Department of Scandinavian Studies of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań (1997). He was an English teacher at the 8th secondary school in Poznań and a Finnish teacher at the Poznań University of Economics, as well as a Finnish translator at the Volvo/Carrus bus factory in Wrocław and the Aker Yards shipyard in Helsinki. He has been freelancing since the beginning of the century and makes his living mainly from translating literature; he is the author of almost a hundred translations from Finnish and English: novels, how-to books, reportages, short stories and short literary forms, and one play. In the second decade of the 21st century, for several years, he was president of the Adam Wittmann Foundation, which published five e-books of newer Finnish classics under the imprint Oficyna Wolny Tor: two reissues and three titles not previously translated into Polish. Since the beginning of the century, he has worked continuously with the Finnish Literature Exchange FILI: he is a teacher in mentoring programmes and the director of the biannual international course for beginner translators of literature in Helsinki. He received the Literatura na Świecie monthly award (2007) in the New Voice category for his translation of the novel by Finnish writer Daniel Katz Laituri matkalla mereen (Czarne Publishing House 2007); the Finnish State Award for Foreign Translators (2017); and the Hall of Fame Award of the European Science Fiction Society in the Best Translator category (2023). For his translation of Finnish writer Juhani Karila's novel Fishing for the Little Pike (Marpress Publishing 2020), he was nominated for the Tadeusz Boy-Żeleński Translation Award of the Mayor of Gdańsk (2023). His translation of Shadow of the Holy Book (Czarne 2010) by Finnish director Arto Halonen and American investigative journalist Kevin Frazier was nominated for the Ryszard Kapuściński Award (2011).
