He is a journalist and writer. He graduated from the Faculty of Philology at the University of Bucharest in 1980. He debuted with the short story collection Maestrul de lumini (1985), and later published many acclaimed works, including Medgidia, orașul de apoi (Medgidia, the City at the End, Cartea Românească Publishing House, 2009), which won the Romanian Writers' Union Prize for Novel in 2010. His short story collections, such as Îngerul de la benzinărie (2003) and Povestiri din lumea nouă (1996), solidified his position as one of Romania’s leading prose writers. In addition to his literary career, Teodorescu is a senior editor at the magazine Cațavencii and has collaborated with many prominent Romanian publications and broadcasters, such as România literară, Dilema Veche, and Radio Europa Liberă. He is the recipient of prestigious awards, including the Romanian Academy Prize (1990) and the PEN Romania Prize (2016, shared with Bogdan Ghiu), among many others. His latest book, Bukarest, a Great Hope, will be published in May in a translation by Radosława Janowska-Lascar, by the Almatea Publishing House.
