Currently Director of the National Library of Romania and former Romanian Ambassador to UNESCO in Paris – is the most renowned historian in his country. Now 58, the professor is the author of numerous books and served for several years as Dean of the Faculty of History at the University of Bucharest. Even before that, he was actively shaping Romania’s history himself – as a senator, a member of the European Parliament, and, from 2007 to 2008, Minister of Foreign Affairs.
