A philosopher by training, he combines theoretical enquiry with engaged empirical research in his academic work. An advocate of critical, radical, and emancipatory pedagogy, he investigates the ways in which educational institutions and culture are intertwined with power relations. His projects have analysed discriminatory practices against part-time students, the response of working cultures in Polish schools to the challenges of capitalism, the visual discourse of artisanal advertising in Guinea-Bissau and S\u00e3o Tom\u00e9 and Pr\u00edncipe, and depictions of schools in mainstream pornography. A key focus of his work is adapting Paulo Freire\u2019s ideas for use in Polish radical pedagogy. He is the author and co-author of five books and several dozen academic and popular science articles.
