A professor of literary studies, literary critic, prose writer, publicist, columnist, and activist, she works at the Institute of Literature and New Media at the University of Szczecin and lives in Szczecin. She is a member of the Council for Scientific Excellence (Rada Doskonałości Naukowej) and the Committee on Literary Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences. As co-editor-in-chief (along with Jerzy Madejski) of the academic journal Autobiografia. Literatura. Kultura. Media, she is also a columnist for Duży Format, a supplement of the Gazeta Wyborcza daily. She has served as a juror for several literary competitions, including twice for the Nike Literary Award and currently for the Poznań Literary Prize. Her works include essays such as Gender dla średnio zaawansowanych. Wykłady szczecińskie (Gender for the Moderately Advanced: Szczecin Lectures), Parafrazy i reinterpretacje. Wykłady z teorii i praktyki czytania (Paraphrases and Reinterpretations: Lectures on the Theory and Practice of Reading), Rewindykacje (Reclamations), Kobieta czytająca dzisiaj (The Woman Reading Today), and Odmrażanie. Literatura w potrzebie (Defrosting: Literature in Need). She has also published fiction, including Smaki i dotyki (Flavors and Touches), Bambino, Ku słońcu (Toward the Sun), Na krótko (For a Short While), W powietrzu (In the Air), Pięćdziesiątka (The Fifties), Kroniki oporu i miłości (Chronicles of Resistance and Love), and Późne życie (Late Life). Additionally, she has released a collection of columns, Blogotony, and an autobiographical book, Umarł mi. Notatnik żałoby (My Loved One Died: A Mourning Notebook). She is also the author of the travel collection Widok z okna w podróży służbowej (View from the Window on a Business Trip). Reissued by Drzazgi Publishing in 2024, Bambino, originally published in 2007, was a finalist for the Nike, Angelus, and Gdynia literary awards.
